This is a re-work of a photo taken in 2/2012, south of Ventura, toward McGrath beach. The day was cold and windy, sand flying, tripods blowing over. Bright, crisp light.
The original had the horizon at midline. Today, I cropped off part of the upper sky, giving a more cinematic crop, and retouched it a bit. To me, the most important part of the picture is the footprints, and the secondary part is the angle of the dunes.
If I were to take this picture again, it might be interesting to get really low, focus on the prints, have the dunes above the horizon, and the ocean a flat line in the distance. DOF could be to infinity – or not.
